Continuing with our Wagyu cattle series, part two focuses on the question “where did Wagyu cattle come from?” Although Wagyu cattle did not originate in the United States, their importation has made a significant impact in our country.   1. Where did Wagyu cattle come from?

As mentioned, Wagyu is a Japanese breed of cattle and originated in Japan. The cattle were believed to have been imported into the U.S. around 1975 via boat.  Since then, Wagyu have done nothing but flourish as chefs and consumers began recognizing the quality and health benefits of Wagyu beef.
