Trusted genetics backed by real-world data

At R-C Ranch we've built our business around genetics that perform in a real world production setting. From pasture all the way to the rail, our boxed beef program relies on profitable performance on every animal.

Collecting and analyzing data of every working sire’s progeny within our supply chain allows us the unique opportunity to identify the best genetics. While we utilize tools such as EPDs, EBVs, and indexes, our breeding plan is squarely centered around the internal data we collect.

Maternal Advantage

While so much emphasis in wagyu centers around terminal traits, we haven't forgotten that our base herd of registered females as the origin of our success.

We select for females that are sound, functional, and built for longevity. Our criteria include fertility, mothering traits, and ability to maintain body condition with minimal supplement.

On Feed Performance

Having fed thousands of cattle throughout our supply chain, we've learned that growth, efficiency, and hardiness are imperative to finding profitability.

We verify sires and run routine check weights on fed cattle to compare and identify progeny performance for average daily gain, consumption, finished weight, and cost of gain.

Carcass Quality

While marbling is the “wow” factor for our national foodservice distributors, restaurant partners, and retailers, IMF (intramuscular fat) alone does not make a carcass profitable.

We measure and select for dressing percentage, ribeye area, yields, and carcass weight. All carcasses are graded using MIJ cameras for accuracy and progeny cutouts are run to track carcass revenue values per sire.
